This video with Cornel West, Richard Wolff, & Norman Finkelstein reflects something I've said for a long time. Even well-intentioned honest brilliant people can only imagine a "political" change to fix the West's problems.
None can even picture a "philosophical" revolution, let alone a "spiritual" one.
But the politics they discuss all came out of philosophers, such as Adam Smith, Carl Marx, etc. However, I must admit I cannot imagine anyone getting interested in Baba or EOP. And even if this happened, what would it do? How would it relate?
It might make people nicer to one another.
It might make them see that money and power are not the summum bonum in life.
It might make them see why we are here.
The problem is that this would be the slowest of all revolutions. But Baba literally called it that!
"I have come to bring about a revolution in man's thinking, the slowest of all revolutions." (Awakener Magazine, Vol. XXI, No. 2, p. 6)
The heart behind socialism, communism, and even capitalism is to try to help people -- either through regulation or through lifting curtailments imagined to be in the way of success and suppressing energies.
But when people are conditioned by the philosophy of Empire (which is what Darwinism was and what rules our thinking now) then there is no avenue forward out of our problems.
"Selfishness, multiplied by population, results in wars, exploitation, persecution and poverty. Selflessness, multiplied by population, brings about peace and plenty. All the modern fads that are stalking the world today, in the guise of politics, economics, materialism, communalism, nationalism and socialism, have to be judged on the criteria of selfishness or selflessness." (Meher Baba, LM 3162)
Even these men are committed Darwinists. And don't realize how this limits their minds.
Once again I don't wish to diminish their good intentions. But their political hopes are what the young call delulu.
